Dress Rehearsal
A short film inspired by Amanda Gorman
Dress Rehearsal is a story inspired by Amanda Gorman, who, in 2021, was named the youngest inaugural poet in the United States. The film captures the curiosity and creative imagination of a young Black girl filled with aspirations.
Mackenzie Shelton, a 12-year-old girl from Brooklyn stars in the film, as she seizes the opportunity to reimagine Gorman’s “The Hill We Climb” poem while dressed in the infamous yellow coat and red headband. This short yet impactful piece serves as a reminder to empower the youth and provide them with the tools to be seen and heard.
Made in Brooklyn, NY.
This production is powered by Sunday School Creative, Chucha Studios, and Color of Change.
