REPRESENTATION MATTERS: THE BLACK SUPER HERO

CONFLICT

For decades, the film industry was missing a story surrounding a black super hero. We value the importance of representation through film (especially for children), and we needed to create content that surrounded this experience.

WHAT WE DID?

In January, our team directed and produced a short unscripted film, inspired by the idea of representation. We developed a short story featuring a young boy getting his first magazine with a black super hero. The portrayal was an inspiration to many, and reflected real-life experiences of young boys and girls globally.

On February 16th 2018, one of the most highly anticipated films named ‘Black Panther’ was officially released in theatres by Marvel Studios. We also released our series during the same week to show the world how important the youthful perspective was in association to the movie.

RESULTS

The short film was released via social media, and received great feedback. The concept served a purpose that many were inspired by and related to. The young boy and girl have a source of inspiration that many wish they had in prior years.
